Probiotics — Bifido, spore-based, and histamine-free strains
Probiotics are live bacterial strains that support gut flora. At Naturshopen, we offer three different types: traditional lactic acid bacteria (Seeking Health ProBiota Bifido), spore-based (BiOptimizers P3-OM), and special formulas for sensitive individuals (Smidge Sensitive, Seeking Health HistaminX).
What are probiotics?
Live microorganisms that, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host, according to the WHO. The most common genera are Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, and Bacillus (spore-forming).
How much — and which strain?
Doses are measured in CFU (colony-forming units). Effective doses usually start at 1 billion CFU per day, but strain-specific studies range from 100 million to 100 billion. EFSA has not yet approved health claims for individual probiotic strains in the EU.
Dairy or soil-based?
Lacto/Bifido strains are well-studied for general gut health. Spore-based (Bacillus coagulans, B. subtilis in P3-OM) can withstand stomach acid without a capsule and are robust. Histamine-free variants are for those with histamine intolerance.
How we select probiotics
Named strains (not just genera), guaranteed CFU at best-before date, acid-resistant capsule where relevant, and formulation adapted for the respective target group (children, sensitive individuals, daily use).
Frequently Asked Questions
Do probiotics need to be refrigerated?
Lactic acid-based probiotics last longer in the refrigerator. Spore-based probiotics are stable at room temperature — good for travel.
When can I expect results?
Some notice a difference within a week, others after a month of daily intake. The effect ceases if you stop.
Probiotics with antibiotics?
Take them a few hours apart, or choose S. boulardii (a yeast, not a bacterium) which is not affected by antibiotics.
