Omega-3 — raw cold-pressed cod liver oil and whole liver oils
Omega-3 are fatty acids that the body needs but does not produce in sufficient quantities. At Naturshopen, we have chosen raw cold-pressed whole liver oils from Rosita and FIQ — they deliver EPA, DHA, and naturally occurring vitamins A and D without heat treatment or chemical solvents.
What is omega-3?
EPA and DHA come from fish; ALA from flaxseed and walnuts. The body converts ALA to EPA/DHA very inefficiently — less than 5% according to the Swedish Food Agency — so marine sources are most effective for most people.
How much per day?
EFSA recommends at least 250 mg of EPA + DHA per day for normal heart function. Pregnant and breastfeeding women have an additional DHA need of approximately 200 mg. One teaspoon of raw cod liver oil typically provides 500–800 mg of EPA+DHA plus natural vitamins A and D.
Cod liver oil or fish oil?
Fish oil comes from the body of the fish and is distilled to concentrate EPA and DHA. Cod liver oil comes from the liver and also contains natural vitamins A and D. Raw cold-pressed oil — like Rosita Extra Virgin — preserves the structure of the fatty acids and the fat-soluble vitamins in their original proportions.
How we choose an omega-3
Processing (raw cold-pressed or gentle distillation), origin (preferably IFOS or Friend of the Sea certified), freshness (low peroxide value and clear date marking), and a clean ingredient list.
Frequently asked questions
Can I take omega-3 daily?
Yes, for most adults, daily intake is safe. Discuss with a doctor if you are taking blood-thinning medication (Waran, Eliquis, Xarelto).
Why do I experience fish burps?
This is because the oil has started to oxidize. Choose a fresh oil, store it cold after opening, and start with a small dose.
Do you have vegan omega-3?
Algal oil directly delivers DHA (and newer products also EPA) — it is not in our assortment today. Contact us if you are looking for a specific product.
