Retinol — natural Vitamin A from liver and cod liver oil
Retinol is the biologically active form of Vitamin A. At Naturshopen, our retinol comes exclusively from whole food sources: FIQ Cod Liver IQ, Nordic Kings grass-fed beef liver and organ mix, and Rosita Extra Virgin Cod Liver Oil. No synthetic retinyl acetate powders, no isolated tablets.
What is retinol?
Preformed Vitamin A that the body can use directly — unlike beta-carotene, which must be converted. Retinol is needed for vision, skin, mucous membranes, immune system, and copper metabolism (ceruloplasmin synthesis).
How much per day?
EFSA recommends 800 µg RE for adults. The Swedish Food Agency warns pregnant women against intake exceeding 3,000 µg/day from supplements — a teaspoon of cod liver oil is normally within the safe zone and also provides Vitamin D and omega-3.
Wholefood or synthetic?
Synthetic retinyl palmitate lacks the liver cofactors (copper, B12, CoQ10) required for Vitamin A to function optimally. Wholefood sources deliver the complete package — and are central to the Root Cause Protocol where retinol drives copper metabolism and iron regulation.
How we select retinol
Wholefood origin (liver, liver oil), traceable animals (preferably grass-fed and organic), raw cold-pressed or gently freeze-dried processing, and natural A/D balance.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference from retinol in skin cream?
Skincare retinol is applied topically and affects skin cell turnover locally. Our range consists of internal Vitamin A from food sources.
Is cod liver oil too much A?
At a normal dose (1 tsp/day), Vitamin A intake is below the upper limit. The risk mainly exists with very high doses combined with multivitamins.
Why is retinol important in RCP?
Retinol is needed for ceruloplasmin — the protein that controls copper and iron in the blood.
